Benjamin Hebbert Violins

Charles Frank Langonet, London, c.1935

A superb violin after the Cremonese manner, c.1935

I don’t have a video for this instrument yet. Until I make one, here is a short film that I commissioned in 2016 as part of the Yehudi Menuhin Centenary to help support Newark School of Violin Making, co-founded by him in 1972. If you would like to extend your support of the school, please like and share this video as the exposure is incredibly important in raising awareness of this precious institution.

Description

An English violin by Charles Frank Langonet, circa 1935
Labelled: Unlabelled.

In 1889 Charles François Langonet joined  W.E. Hill & Sons, aged just nineteen to become the first foreman of the workshop, leaving an incredible reputation behind him that was followed by his son, Charles Frank.

Charles Frank’s work tends against straightforward copies (an exception is a del Gesù violin also sold by us) and instead towards combining the various influences that came from his  lifetime of restoring the best violins in the world. This example is of a full Stradivarian golden-period Grand pattern, but has the subtly of a violin from a much earlier period, the 1670s or 1680s. As a result it is an absolute delight, more reminiscent of the work of Vuillaume than Hills in its appearance, and a superb example by a relatively unknown maker whose life was spent amongst the titans of dealing and restoration.

Certificate: Our certificate available upon purchase.

Condition notes: The violin is in an excellent state of preservation.
