Description
A silver-mounted German bow by Herbert Wanka after the manner of Eugene Sartory, circa 1990.
Bows by Herbert Wanka are amongst the most respected German production bows of the post-war period with considerable acceptance amongst professional musicians, especially in Germany (where his name doesn’t produce the sniggers that come from the English language). His bows vary between a personal style, a German style based upon the work of his teacher, Emanuel Schuster, and bows modelled after the French bows of Eugene Sartory and Joseph Alfred Lamy. This silver-mounted violin bow is closely modelled on Parisian bows by Eugene Sartory, and like Sartory’s work, it is an easy and very versatile bow to play. It is nowhere near substituting a Sartory byt has many comparable qualities, and at a fraction of the price.
