Benjamin Hebbert Violins

Renato Casara, Brazil, contemporary

A good contemporary Brazilian violin bow after the manner of James Tubbs by Renato Casara.

I don’t have a video for this instrument yet. Until I make one, here is a short film that I commissioned in 2016 as part of the Yehudi Menuhin Centenary to help support Newark School of Violin Making, co-founded by him in 1972. If you would like to extend your support of the school, please like and share this video as the exposure is incredibly important in raising awareness of this precious institution.

Description

A good contemporary Brazilian violin bow after the manner of James Tubbs by Renato Casara.

For 250 years the best woods for making violin bows have come from the coastal regions of Brazil, and in the last twenty-five years local manufacture of bows has developed enormously so that the better bows offer outstanding value for the price. This bow is has a particularly dense stick, and is carefully made as a dimensionally accurate interpretation of the bows of the great 19th century English maker, James Tubbs. It produces a particularly strong and focussed tone. The quality of every bow depends on the instrument and the player, but a typical recommendation would be for an advancing musician where clarity and precise intonation are important, so a great bow to take through advanced grades and possibly through to conservatoire.
