I like to make a commitment to student instruments. I keep a relatively small stock of carefully considered instruments for beginners and intermediate players. For some intermediate players the priority is all about tone, so sourcing violins that have a richer voice is can be very important, especially if this makes the instrument more enjoyable to play, and helps the violin to remain interesting at a stage where there are many other distractions for the young mind. For more serious musicians, a more focussed and direct sounding instrument provides the clarity to work on technique and intonation, providing a better grounding to go on towards higher grades and into conservatoire. Ideally I like to find instruments that have a bit of both qualities, but that can be quite hard to come by at a student price. My stock ranges from contemporary manufactured instruments which are furnished with a meticulous setup to nineteenth century French, German manufactured instruments and some made in England. My stock is limited in size, and it is rare for me to have fractional sized instruments available, so please contact me before making a visit.
